Careers counsellor


The Careers Counsellor is on hand to provide the very necessary guidance in choosing the right subject package to fulfill students needs and therefore assist them in their future educational careers. The Careers Counsellor also maintains contact with colleges and universities around the world, thus keeping the information at school up-to-date.

The Careers Counsellor assists students in all matters relating to subject and career choice.

In order to do this the counsellor:

  • guides and advises the student and their parent(s)/guardian(s) in matters regarding post-MYP  or tertiary education;
  • guides and advises the student and the parent(s)/guardian(s) on subject choices;
  • provides information with respect to vocational courses and  higher education and careers, either directly or by referring students and parents to relevant sources;
  • maintains contact with parents via parent evenings, and through individual contact;
  • co-ordinates the careers guidance programme;
  • maintains contact with institutions of secondary vocational and of tertiary education;
  • keeps the careers library updated with information about areas of study and places in secondary vocational  and  in tertiary education;
  • keeps students and parents/guardians informed about careers via Managebac;
  • guides and assists those who wish to avail themselves of any careers-guidance tests offered by the school;
  • organizes careers information opportunities for students;
  • is a member of the admissions committee;

The Careers Counselling programme starts at the end of MP3 and continues in MYP4, MYP5, DP1 and DP2 (Grades 9 to 12 in the U.S. system and Years 10 to 13 in the British system).
