Mona has won the Young StArs prize

Mona, a students from the graduating class of 2019 – former DP2 – International Baccalaureate students, has won the Young StArs prize. 

Mona won the VWO level (age category) with her work entitled 'Tea Party' at the Young StArs exhibition which was judged on Sunday 9 June.   In addition, Ilayda, a fellow class of 2019 student received an honorable mention for her work entitled ‘Layers'.

Marja Selier, Art Teacher at Rijnlands was the supervisor of both girls, what an amazing compliment!

Emma, a student from Bonaventuracollege burggravenlaan won the HAVO (age category) prize with a beautifully created ribbed bag.

The jury consisted of visual artists:   Vlindertje and Tim Juffermans (Haagweg studios) and Theo de Wit Art Editor of Leidsch Dagblad.

The exhibition was opened by Leiden’s cultural representative, Mirjam Flik which included final exam work from 7 local secondary schools which, for the first time, included representation from our own International students.

The text which accompanied Mona's winning work reads: 'This is an assembly or a tea party between Egyptian and Dutch leaders who have become together to discuss their diplomatic relations. Beneath these political friendly conversations, deep rooted economical, political and social issues are ignored.   The newspapers highlight these issues, literally, at the hand of the leaders while sipping on their tea. '

The winning prize consists of a drawing folder containing a voucher of 100, - from drawing and painting shop Terpentijn.

This exhibition of exciting art  can be seen at Ars, Pieterskerkgracht 9A until 23 June in Ars on a Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

A further “Public Award” will be presented on 23 June.    Visitors can vote for their favorite work when they visit the beautiful historic building of Ars on the Pieterskerkgracht 9a!
