During the last six months, a group of international students from the STEM club, participated in the CanSat project as part of their CAS (Creativity Action and Service). In this project the students are instructed to make a satellite from a can. They have to think about the mission of their satellite, they write a research proposal then they build their satellite and test it!.

Our RLO CanSat Team, called “The Can at the end of the Universe”, was selected as one of the top 10 and was therefore allowed to launch their satellite on Friday, 21 March at the military base in ASK ’t Harde. A big Thank you! to Jan Rmb for bringing the Team there at 8:30 and to Robin for opening the school at 6:30 (!).

The satellites were launched by a group of students from Delft. Part of this group was also an ex-RLO DP student, Eugenio Miotto. Thus an extra RLO flavor to this mission.

On 17 April, they need to hand in their Final Report and to present their project at Space Expo in Noordwijk, after which an expert jury will select the Top 3. The winning team will receive an invitation to the ‘Space Engineer for a day’ event from 17-19 June at ESA/ESTEC in Noordwijk. We wish our CanSat Team the best of luck during the last stage of this competition!
