A fact that few residents of Oegstgeest will know: the Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest has an auditorium that can compete with the Leidse Schouwburg! Perhaps not as modern as Leiden, but even larger in terms of capacity.

When the building plans for the Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest were realized in 1960, it was immediately clear that the school would also have a fully-fledged library, sports hall and auditorium. The State only wanted to bear the costs of the actual school with gymnasiums. For the very expensive auditorium, an appeal was made to the municipality, which had already promised a part of the building site ‘free of charge’. Only the auditorium remains of the Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest. The library is now located on the Lange Voort; since 2009 Oegstgeestenaren have been exercising in Sporthal de Cuyl.

In March, this auditorium will celebrate its glorious comeback!
